philosophy

St. Andrew's Early Childhood Centre offers programs of activities which foster growth and development through play, exploration, observation and discovery.  Educators act as facilitators providing the preschoolers with opportunities to interact within their own milieu.  Through the process of trial and error, children become autonomous in their self-care, successful in establishing relationships and industrious in approaching new experiences and challenges.

The learning process for the children takes place through the guidance and encouragement of caring and experienced educators.  The educators are qualified staff, educated in the field of Early Childhood Education. They are experienced in working with young children from birth to school-age. Each member of the teaching staff holds an updated First Aid Certificate and has completed a police background check.  Educators are encouraged and supported to pursue professional development by taking courses, attending professional conferences and in-house training sessions, given by specialists in the field of early childhood education.

Parents remain active participants in the educational process through informed and formal communications with the educators, as well as through their involvement in the life of the Centre.  Parents play a crucial role on our Board of Directors as well as our Parent Committee.

HISTORY

St. Andrew's School was founded in 1967 by a group of 15 families who wanted to offer a program of activities to their preschool children. This project was sponsored by the St. Andrew's United Church located at the time on Côte Ste. Antoine Road, corner Stanton. The managing of the program was entrusted to Mrs. Jamieson who was appointed as the first Headmistress.

Since that time, St. Andrew's has not stopped in its growth and development. Through the years, it adjusted to the needs of its families and to the changing social and political scenes, while also reflecting the multi-ethnic cultures of its membership.

Today, St. Andrew’s, which has developed into a comprehensive non-profit Early Childhood Centre (CPE), is administered by an elected board of directors from among the parents. The election takes place at the general assembly held annually. The day-to-day functioning of the centre is the responsibility of the Executive Director who is assisted by trained early childhood educators and an administrative assistant.

CPE St. Andrew’s is well known through the professional educational community for its programs and its welcoming physical milieu. For this reason, it is much sought after by CEGEP and University early childhood education departments wishing to train their students.

Centre de la Petite Enfance St. Andrew’s / St. Andrew's Early Childhood Centre is a non-profit early childhood centre licensed under the Ministère De La Famille. Our operating permit number is 2962-2743.
